Wenzhou Museum

   

    

  Founded in 1958 and originally sitting on Jiangxin Island, Wenzhou Museum moved into its new building in 2003 at the west of Century Square at Shifu Road. Wenzhou Museum exhibits more than 20,000 pieces of cultural relics falling into 20 categories including pottery, bronze ware, painted sculptures, brick carvings, lacquer ware, paintings and calligraphies, etc, among which pottery, painted sculptures, and paintings are the featured relics. The main fine treasures collected from home and abroad include the land purchase certificate of Zhu Man’s wife Mrs. Xue back in the Eastern Jin Dynasty unearthed in the Yishan Mountain, the hand-written scriptures of the Tang Dynasty unearthed from the Jinsha Pagoda, the painted sculptures of the Northern Song Dynasty unearthed from the Baixiang Pagoda, the celadon of Northern Song Dynasty unearthed from the West Hill etc.

  Wenzhou Museum has a construction area of about 26,000 square meters with a total exhibition area of 8000 square meters. The 2,100-square-meter historical hall displays the footprints of the “Wenzhou people” in the past 5,000 years. Six thematic exhibition halls are set in addition, including painting and calligraphy hall, pottery hall, natural museum, arts hall, etc. The display makes full use of spatial composition, and strives to achieve breakthroughs and innovations in content design and art forms in order to fully show a large number of cultural treasures and explore deeper into their cultural connotation, so that more viewers will be attracted to the traditional culture and know more about the history of Wenzhou.
