Wenzhou Higher Education

  Most universities and colleges in Wenzhou sit in Chashan Town, Ouhai District, Wenzhou, about 13 kilometers from the downtown Wenzhou. Hence, Chashan Town is also called Wenzhou’s university town. Currently, there are three universities located in Chashan Town, including Wenzhou University, Wenzhou Medical College and Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College. In the downtown Wenzhou, there is another college called Zhejiang Industry & Trade Vocational College.

 • Wenzhou Medical College

  Under the administration of Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou Medical College is a multi-disciplinary university with three campuses and a total area of 800,000 square meters. Wenzhou Medical College consists of 15 schools with 18 doctorate programs, 48 master programs, 30 bachelor programs and a 7-year program leading to Master’s degree, involving medicine, science, administration, laws, engineering, arts and education. Currently, it has a total enrollment of 20,000 students, including junior college students, undergraduates and graduates.

  Active in international cooperation in recent years, Wenzhou Medical College has established cooperative relationships with over 60 colleges, universities or academic institutions abroad such as joint degree program, staff/student exchange program, joint research, credit transfer program etc. The School of International Studies of Wenzhou Medical College began accepting overseas students since 1999 and now boasts more than 450 international students.

• Wenzhou University

  Established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China, Wenzhou University is a regional university founded through the merger of the former Wenzhou Normal College and Wenzhou University, which were founded in the year of 1956 and 1984 respectively. Wenzhou University has a total area of 1.7 square kilometers (419 acres), and a housing area of 820,000 square meters. The library boasts a collection of approximately 1.59 million books.

  Currently there are 20 colleges in Wenzhou University with a full-time student population of 24,960. The number of faculty members, administrative and supporting staff is 1,950, among which 1,310 are full-time teachers (including 167 professors, 448 associate professors), 181 mentors for postgraduates and doctorate students, and 201 academic or technological leaders at the provincial or municipal level.

• Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College

  Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College is a full-time public college founded with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 1999. The college covers an area of 558,000 square meters with a building area of 239,000 square metres. At present, it has 436 full-time teachers, 158 of whom have high professional qualifications. Wenzhou Vocational & Technical College offers education of 33 specialties in 8 departments, which cover pillar industries and specific trades in the southern Zhejiang Province. Now more than 9000 full-time students are studying in the college, and it is the only college which has been issued the right to recruit students by its own entry standards in Wenzhou.

• Zhejiang Industry & Trade Vocational College

  Located in the downtown Wenzhou, Zhejiang Industry & Trade Vocational College is a public full-time college under the administration of Department of Education of Zhejiang Province. The history of the college dates back to a factory’s technical school in 1960. At present, the college occupies an area of 400,000 square meters with nearly 10,000 full-time students and more than 500 faculties. The majors cover economy, trade, management, media, automobile, mechanical engineering and electronics etc. Meanwhile, the college also establishes research centers with various organizations and companies. The college is also famous for its bocce ball team, which has achieved a great success in China’s bocce ball games.
